Eurodesk is a European network; in Germany Eurodesk is situated
with the International Youth Exchange and Visitor´s Service of
the Federal Republic of Germany (IJAB e.V.), a non-governmental
organisation responsible for international co-operation in the
field of youth policy and the German agency for Youth for Europe.
Age
The idea to construct Eurodesk started in 1991 in Scotland. Piloting
of the Eurodesk European network began in November 1994 with 9
Member States involved.
Germany participates in the network since 1996.
Financement
Eurodesk in Germany is partly funded by the European Commission
through the programme Youth for Europe (50%) and through the Ministry
of Youth (50%).
Partnership
Eurodesk is a European network with 18 member countries at the
moment (all EU-member states plus Norway, Iceland and Cyprus).
In 1999 many Eastern European countries and the Baltic states
will follow.
Activity
Eurodesk is a European network which disseminates European Union
information and provides telephone enquiry answering services
at national or regional level for young people and those who work
with them.
Eurodesk is concerned with information relevant to the education,
training and youth fields, and the involvement of young people
in European activities. Eurodesk provides European information
and also the equivalent data from a national level. The information
within the Eurodesk system comprises information on EU and national
funding programmes, EU and national documents and resources (books,
articles, leaflets, Commission documents, etc.) and EU and national
organisations and contacts in the relevant fields.
